PEP Provides "Real World Experience" to College Students
December 11, 2007 - Cincinnati
In October 2007, Promotion Execution Partners (PEP) welcomed 11 students from Central State University (CSU) to participate in the first session of the PEP/CSU clinic. The program was created in an effort to provide CSU marketing students with the opportunity to take what they have learned in the classroom and connect it with the real business world.
CSU senior Brittney Gum says, "I think its (clinic) one of the best experiences Ive had at Central State. I feel like its a grooming process for me to get into the workforce." The program is not only beneficial for the students, but also for PEPs recruiting efforts. As an MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) PEP puts an emphasis on seeking out minority students as potential new hires to the company and Central State University is an esteemed HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in the region which consistently produces a promising candidate pool.
The clinic will culminate with the students delivering final graded presentations about projects they have been assigned to work on throughout the quarter. They were split up into groups and tasked with completing research aimed at improving PEPs internal processes. "The project gives us an eye-opening view of what PEP does and directly relates to what were doing in class," says another CSU senior Candace Jackson.
Like most things in life, you learn best by doing, and the students Market Research Professor, Dr. Henry Schrader understands the value of this hands-on program. "The experience is really priceless," says Schrader. "The students are gaining first hand knowledge from todays business practitioners, seeing the importance of organizational culture, and they are able to put into practice what they have learned in their classes." The insight and training on various promotional tactics that the students are gaining comes from a company that has executed over 3,200 promotions!
PEP intends to continue the clinic each semester and eventually extend the opportunity to other area colleges. "It is my hope that this program can grow and expand and be able to continue to provide an invaluable experience to other college students through a group of people who truly care about their success," Fulgham says.
