pep Joins Cincinnati Leaders in Gender Equity with Silver Certification

pep participates in groundbreaking gender equity certification process in Cincinnati, Ohio.













Last fall, pep joined the 2nd Cohort of Queen City Certified. The process entailed a thorough review of all of our policies and procedures, a survey of our team, a gender/pay audit, and setting two and four-year goals. While there were many unknowns, it was exciting to be at the forefront of such an innovative program rooted right here in Cincinnati.

The certification involved learning sessions, reviewing policies, and a team survey.  pep attended three learning sessions about the importance of equity, the change process, gender-based violence, and was provided with additional opportunities to learn from fellow cohort members.  Outside of the learning sessions, pep began the process of reviewing internal policies against the Queen City Certified scorecard, earning points in different categories based on the level of difficulty regarding the policy implementation.  The team was also surveyed to ensure existing policies are in practice accordingly.  While the final survey results revealed some distinct areas of focus to direct future goals against, pep showed incredibly high levels of engagement with moms of children under 5.

After four short months of involvement, pep earned a silver certification and celebrated with the other members of the Fall Cohort. Silver-level employers have achieved significant progress in creating more inclusive and equitable workplaces. A solid framework of policies and practices are not only in place, but also implemented well, as demonstrated by high levels of satisfaction and engagement among employees of all genders. Gender and race pay audits have been conducted and action plans have been developed to address any unexplained disparities found. As Nicole Armstrong, founder of Queen City Certified, stated at the celebration,“this certification is only the beginning.”  Heeding that advice, pep went right back to work in setting additional goals to ensure continual improvement in driving gender equity and diversity within the organization.
